Puerto Rico Tops CGA Four-Ball Championships

Team Puerto Rico topped the overall competition in the Caribbean Golf Association (CGA) Ball Tournament at the PGA National resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Cayman Islands finished second, with Barbados in third. Some 56 golfers from all over the Caribbean took part in the tournament, representing the CGA member countries.

CGA President (and Puerto Rico Golf Association President) Sidney Wolf, in praising the result, said "In view of the ongoing recovery and rebuilding efforts post-Maria, this is a remarkable performance by Team Puerto Rico, and congratulations to them. Congrats also to all the participating golfers as well as to the entire CGA team on the staging of the Four-Ball Championships." The event, he added, is an important element in the Association's drive to grow and develop golf in the wider region, and to help the respective member countries strengthen their individual capacities.

Aside from the overall team presentation, Mara Pagan and Rebekah Alfond of Puerto Rico took the MARIA NUNES TROPHY for Ladies 35 and over, with Orapin Nitti Howe and Rocio Esau from Cayman Islands in the runner-up spot.

The Cayman Islands' Michael Wight and Phillip Wight took the FRANCIS & STEELE-PERKINS CUP for Seniors, ahead of Carlos Nido and Fernando Diaz of Puerto Rico, while the HIGGS & HIGGS TROPHY for Super Seniors went to Kevin Marche and Steve Wallace of the Bahamas ahead of Tracy Moore and Stephen Heal of the Cayman Islands.

The DESSIE HENRY TROPHY for Ladies 50 and over was won by Amoy Chang Fong and Pauline Figuera-Raynor, of Trinidad & Tobago, with Gail Fields and Julia Stephenson Barbados in the runners-up spot.

Barbadians James Johnson and Julian Jordan combined to take the RAMON BAEZ TROPHY for Mid-Amateurs ahead of Erick Morales and Pepi Suarez of Puerto Rico.

Founded in 1987, the Caribbean Golf Association presently comprises 9 member countries: the Bahamas, Barbados, the Cayman Islands, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, and the US Virgin Islands.
